CLEVELAND — With MLB owners reaching agreement with the players’ union, there will be a full 162-game MLB season to be played.

What You Need To Know

  • The Cleveland Guardians will still play a 162-game MLB schedule in 2022 despite a delayed start

  • Instead of having its home opener March 31, the club plays its first of 81 games in Progressive Field April 15

  • The six home games postponed by the MLB lockout will be played at the end of the year or during nine-inning doubleheaders

  • The Guardians’ spring training exhibitions will commence March 18

The lockout, however, caused the Cleveland Guardians’ home opener to be pushed back a few weeks.

Originally, the Guardians were scheduled to open the season March 31 at home against Kansas City. The club also had home games scheduled against Kansas City April 2 and 3, and a three-game home series against Minnesota. Those six home games were postponed.

The Guardians said the six postponed games will be made up with three games at the end of the previously scheduled regular season and as part of nine-inning doubleheaders. Additional schedule details will be announced at a later time.

Other than six make-up games, the rest of the Guardians’ regular season schedule will remain intact. The team will open the season at Kansas City April 7, which was already supposed to be the squad’s first road game of 2022.

The Guardians will play their first of 81 home games at Progressive Field April 15 against San Francisco.

With a shortened spring training window, Cleveland’s first exhibition game will be either March 18 versus Cincinnati. The Guardians will play 20 exhibition games in 19 days leading up to the regular season.
