CLEVELAND — It’s no secret that Cavaliers fans, players and coaches all thought Jarrett Allen should have earned a spot in the NBA All-Star Game.

While it’s still possible Allen gets an invite as a fill-in, Allen will still play a part in Cleveland’s NBA All-Star Game Weekend. 

The NBA announced that Allen will join rookie Evan Mobley and All-Star guard Darius Garland for a three-team Skills Challenge. Going against the Cavs trio will be a team made up of Giannis, Thanasis and Alex Antetokounmpo. A third trio will comprise rookies Scottie Barnes of the Toronto Raptors, Cade Cunningham of the Detroit Pistons and Josh Giddey, of the Oklahoma City Thunder. 

The teams to compete in four rounds: Team shooting, team passing, team relay and half-court shot. 

The event is part of the league’s All-Star Saturday Night festivities on Feb. 19, which also include the traditional slam-dunk and 3-point contests. 

Participating in the 3-point contest will be Desmond Bane (Memphis Grizzlies), Luke Kennard (Los Angeles Clippers), Zach LaVine (Chicago Bulls), CJ McCollum (Portland Trail Blazers), Patty Mills (Brooklyn Nets), Karl-Anthony Towns (Minnesota Timberwolves), Fred VanVleet (Toronto Raptors), and Trae Young (Atlanta Hawks).

Orlando Magic guard Cole Anthony, Houston Rockets guard Jalen Green, New York Knicks forward Obi Toppin and Golden State Warriors forward Juan Toscano-Anderson to participate in the slam-dunk contest.

As previously announced, Mobley and Cavs guard Issac Okoro to play in the Rising Stars game on Feb. 18. The Rising Stars game to include top first-year, second-year and G League players.
