CINCINNATI — Picking a winner for Super Bowl LVI will be no easy feat.

Quarterback Joe Burrow and the upstart Cincinnati Bengals are riding a hot streak and looking to win their first title in club history. But the talented Los Angeles Rams are playing the game in their own backyard at SoFi Stadium.

What’s a football fan to think?

If you’re torn about who to go with in this year’s big game, you can try to make an educated guess based on stats and records and things of that nature. Or you can take out the hard work by relying on the advice of a few confident “experts” at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden.

What You Need To Know

  • Hint: There may have been a home-field advantage for the penguins' predictions

  • As of Wednesday, the Rams are a slight 4.5-point favorite for the game in Inglewood, Calif.

  • Kickoff for the Super Bowl is set for 6:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, Feb. 13

On Wednesday, four of the king penguins strutted down a walkway at the zoo and underneath an orange-and-black colored banner that reads “Bengals.” The quartet of BB, Larry, Stacey and Martin Luther didn’t even glance at the banner to their right marked “Rams.”

King penguins are much better known for the skills in their water – their streamlined body and paddle-like wings enable them to swim underwater faster than many birds can fly – but you wouldn’t know that based on the confidence in their walk as they made their selection.

For those that were wondering, neither Bengal tigers or rams are natural enemies of the king penguin, so that didn’t play a factor. The experts in Las Vegas may disagree with that choice. As of Wednesday, the Rams are a slight 4.5-point favorite for the game in Inglewood, Calif.

But while the penguin crew may not be so-called “handicappers,” they all walked tall as they moved as a team straight to the Bengals banner. Michelle Curley, the zoo’s communications person, admitted the deck may have been stacked a little in the Bengals’ favor.

Let’s call it a home-field advantage.

“We have fun with big game predictions every year and usually give each team an equal chance to be selected by the animals doing the picks. This year, however, is a little different,” she said. She noted that you’ll notice that the Bengals banner is slightly larger than the Rams banner.

“It would be difficult for the penguins NOT to pick the home team. Who Dey,” Curley added.

Rico, the Cincinnati Zoo’s porcupine, has also made it known he’s going with the Cincinnati Bengals. It’s not yet clear what other exotic animals at the Cincinnati Zoo feel about the Super Bowl. They may be waiting until a little closer to game time to announce their choice.
