CLEVELAND — A major wrestling company will be making its return to Cleveland for the first time since 2019.

What You Need To Know

  • All Elite Wrestling will host a show at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland

  • Matt Hardy is a wrestler for the company

  • Hardy has many memories of wrestling in Ohio

Wrestling superstar Matt Hardy has wrestled since the 90s, and said some of his fondest moments from his career were in Cleveland during his time in WWE.

“Cleveland is where I became a star,” said Hardy. “You know, myself, Jeff, Edge, Christian, that’s where the tag team ladder match happened back in No Mercy 1999, and we really did take the step of becoming just a wrestler into becoming a superstar. That’s where we turned the corner in that match.”

Hardy participated in a ladder match alongside his brother, Jeff Hardy, and WWE Hall of Fame wrestler Adam Copeland, known by his ring name “Edge,” and William Reso, known as his ring name “Christian.”

The match helped elevate the four to new heights in their careers.

It isn’t the only memory Hardy has of Cleveland.

Hardy won the ECW Championship in 2008, one of the greatest single accomplishments in his career. Now, the North Carolina native makes his return to the city as a member of All Elite Wrestling.

“Cleveland is a great wrestling city with a lot of history, and one thing that I love about AEW is that we acknowledge the entire wrestling universe,” said Hardy. “So we’re so excited to be coming to Cleveland and performing in front of all the great fans there.”

AEW Dynamite takes place Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The live broadcast airs on TBS. Dynamite’s last show in Cleveland took place in 2019.

The company is home for several Ohio stars like Jon Moxley and Michael Wardlow.
