CLEVELAND — More than two billion packages are set to pass through the United States Postal Service just this week.

“It’s very busy but our employees are very excited," said Naddia Dhalai, USPS strategic communications specialist. "They know it picks up, people work longer hours because of the volume we see, and a lot of them have been here, this is not their first holiday season, so they get really excited and energized to make sure we can get the mail on time.”

Dhalai said things are running smoothly this holiday season. However, there are some important deadlines customers need to be aware of if they want their presents to arrive before Christmas.

For instance, Dec. 15 is the deadline for retail ground.

2021 USPS Holiday Shipping Deadlines

  • Dec. 15 – USPS Retail Ground
  • Dec. 17 – First-Class Mail (greetings cards and letters)
  • Dec. 18 – Priority Mail
  • Dec. 23 – Priority Mail Express

“Get them in as soon as you can, if you have them we'll take it," she said. "If you can’t make it during normal hours, we have 'click and ship,' where are you can go online and purchase the postage and then a letter carrier will come pick it up, or you can come in after hours on our self-service kiosks."

She also said people should double check to make sure they put the correct address on the package to avoid any hold ups.
