COLUMBUS, Ohio — A show 40 years in the making, on Dec. 18, Opera Columbus will pull back the curtain on Tosca marking the start of its 40th anniversary season.
“It's a valentine to our origins,” said Opera Columbus Executive Director Julia Noulin-Merat. “Tosca is the first production we did 40 years ago, and this time around, we are amplifying it.”
Tosca follows a celebrated opera singer who must give the performance of a lifetime to save the man she loves.
This rendition will feature Bridgerton-inspired costumes and a performance from the ProMusica Orchestra 10 feet in the air. Opera Columbus puts a modern twist on the classic art form with its motto “Make it Your Own” in an effort to appeal to a broader audience.
“If you have never been to the opera before, this is the perfect opera to give you a little taste of what it means to incorporate live singing with incredibly beautiful music,” said Noulin-Merat.
Opera Columbus' Tosca opens Saturday, Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m., with a second performance Sunday, Dec. 19 at 2 p.m.
