CLEVELAND — The city of Cleveland announced Friday that construction will begin Monday on new police stables that will house 16 horses.

The new stables, which will come at a cost of $7 million, will include an indoor training arena, horse care facilities, a community meeting room, offices and various support spaces. The city said outdoor spaces will include a pasture, paddock, loading and unloading areas and a public park.

Construction on the police stables will continue through the winter. The construction will include vegetation clearing, environmental remediation, rough grading and fill and stormwater and erosion control, the city said. 

The stables will be located on East 59th Street between Thackeray Avenue and Hawthorne Avenue.

“I am very happy to see the Cleveland Mounted Police Stables come to Ward 5,” said Ward 5 Councilwoman Delores L. Gray. “This $7 million investment will provide new educational opportunities to our residents of all ages, and will stimulate further development in our community.”
