He was also named the Big Ten’s Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. It was the first time he has earned conference Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Stroud has accounted for four of Ohio State’s six Freshman of the Week awards this season. Running back TreVeyon Henderson won the award on Sept. 20 for his performance against Tulsa and quarterback Kyle McCord was the conference Freshman of the Week on Sept. 27 for his contributions against Akron.

Stroud completed 24 of 33 passes for 406 yards and five touchdowns against Maryland on Saturday in the Buckeyes’ 66-17 victory. His 406-yard performance was the sixth most by an Ohio State quarterback.

“I think his preparation has been excellent,” Ohio State coach Ryan Day said. “I think he sees the field well, he’s got some good players around him and he’s also making some really good throws. His timing’s been right, he’s seeing the field, he’s making good decisions, so that’s allowing us to run the offense and be very efficient.”

Stroud gave credit to his teammates for his success in the first half of the season.

“I’m just being more comfortable, being myself,” Stroud said. “I’m really just relaxing back there. My teammates have really helped me and my O-line does a great job of keeping the pocket clean. I just had to do my job and part. We’re starting to roll and get momentum.”

Ohio State enters its bye week with a 5-1 record. The Buckeyes visit Indiana on Oct. 23.
