CLEVELAND — After doing a run as a fundraiser, a DJ used to leading crowds during professional sporting events is now leading people to a healthier lifestyle.

What You Need To Know

  • A northeast Ohio DJ started a running club for people of all skill levels

  • The group runs several times each month

  • Anyone is welcome to join the running group

People wouldn’t know it now, but DJ Steph Floss hasn’t always loved to run.

“I had never ran before 2014," Floss said. "A friend of mine, she had just came into town, she had just run a half marathon and I’m like ‘oh, you’ve just run a half marathon, I can do that.’”

He's been getting people on their feet for years as the official DJ for the Cleveland Cavaliers. He first laced up his sneakers as a way to raise money for friends who were battling cancer.

"So, I said you know what, I’ll do a 5k and raise $5,000 for that for the Cleveland Marathon," he said.

Little did he know, it was the start of a new journey.

"After the marathon, I initially thought I was going to be done with running, this was a onetime thing," Floss said. "But I felt great and I was like 'you know what, let me continue to do this.'”

That is when he started his group, Run with the Winners.

"Start a running club for people like me," he said. "That may not have been into running growing up and may want to get into running now.”

Now, seven years later, his running group has turned into more than just a hobby.

"I mean, we are a group, but anytime I mention our Run with the Winners crew, our club, I mention them as family because we are family," he said. "We spend so much time with each other while running.”

Since starting the group, Floss has seen himself transform mentally and physically.

"I mean, it is so much cardio, like you are going to gain some positive health benefits," Floss said with a laugh. "You can’t see it now, but my legs look amazing! You should see my legs they are amazing because of the running.”

Anyone is invited to Run with the Winners, regardless of skill levels.

“You know you can just relax, come out run exercise, have fun and have a good time,” Floss said.
