CLEVELAND — Swimming pools operated by the city of Cleveland will be forced to operate at reduced hours through Aug. 8, the city announced Tuesday.

The city said that adjustments to hours and operations were made due to a shortage in lifeguard candidates this season.

Outdoor pools will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays the rest of the summer regardless of temperature. The pools will be open noon to 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays.

To maximize customer usage, pools will be open for 45-minute sessions, and swimmers will be required to check in for each session. Also, the deep end of Cleveland’s outdoor pools will remain closed.

All indoor pools operated by the city will be open just three days a week, the city said. The operational schedule for Cleveland’s pools are available on the city’s website.

The crunch for seasonal employees has affected other summertime attractions. Cedar Point reduced its hours during the month of June as it faced a staffing shortage. The amusement park is resuming normal hours this week after bumping its pay and recruiting efforts.
