CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Metropolitan School District has agreed to sell the former site of South High School to the City of Cleveland to be used as a training center for first responders.

The school board approved the plan on Tuesday that would sell the building to the city for $435,000. In return, the city will lease the space for use for field trips for students preparing to become future first responders. The school district will maintain and operate the building for the first year of the agreement.

The district closed the high school 11 years ago. It has since been used for storage and trade shops.

The district agreed to pay a prorated amount for maintenance and utilities in future years.

The school district will operate eight classrooms at the new training facility.
