CLEVELAND — Cleveland State’s Wolstein Center will remain open as a mass vaccination site through May 31, Gov. Mike DeWine’s office announced Thursday.

Johnson & Johnson’s one-dose coronavirus vaccine will be administered. Anyone age 18 or older can receive the vaccine. The site will be open for walk-ins from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. starting May 11 through May 17.

Appointments can also be booked online at gettheshot.coronavirus.ohio.gov or by calling 833-4-ASK-ODH.

From May 18 through May 31, the clinic will be used to administer the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

So far, the site has been used to distribute 237,000 first and second doses of the Pfizer vaccine.

The governor’s office said that the site may operate past May 31 if demand warrants.

In recent weeks, demand for the COVID-19 vaccine has waned. With declining demand, getting a vaccine is becoming easier as local pharmacies, including hundreds of CVS and Walgreens locations throughout Ohio, have started offering walk-in appointments for COVID-19 vaccines this week.

During Wednesday’s White House press briefing, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki acknowledged that there will be a shift away from mass vaccination sites like the one at Wolstein Center.

“We know it will be harder and harder to reach people and meet people where they are, hence the increase in walk-in hours or the announcement of walk-in hours on mobile units, on partnerships with primary care physicians and doctors to make it even easier and more accessible for people to get the vaccine," Psaki said.
