CANTON — The COVID-19 pandemic brought new obstacles for health care workers and many people around the country have taken notice of their sacrifices, including students at the University of Mount Union.

What You Need To Know

  • Students at the University of Mount Union have been hand-crafting gift bags for health care workers

  • They plan to make more than 1,000 gift bags

  • Students are making the bags as a sign of appreciation for those on the frontlines of the pandemic

Since the beginning of February, groups of students across the campus have been working hard to make gift bags to give to health care workers in Northeast Ohio.

Logan Burns, who is a student at Mount Union, has spent several hours crafting the gift bags.

“I think it’s important, especially during these times to help out people in need," Burns said. " So any little thing that I can do really makes a difference to me.”

They plan to make and distribute around 1,200 bags that are filled with items like hand-made drink coasters, snacks, coupons and handwritten thank you notes.

Burns said the hours spent on this project are worth it, knowing he can put a smile on someone's face.

"For me personally, that is probably one of the best feelings in the world," Burns said. "I think just being able to give back to anybody and make their day a little better is all I can do and that’s the purpose of life, being able to give back to others.”

The students will be distributing the bags to health care workers in their area within the next few weeks.
