CLEVELAND, Ohio — A new mobile classroom is making its way through Cleveland. From the outside it looks like your typical bus, but when you walk inside you'll see it's transformed into a classroom.

"I found this bus on Marketplace during the whole shutdown, and I went ahead and bought it. When I seen it, I immediately knew it was the resource center," said Kimberly Smith, the executive director of Best Community Resource Center.

What You Need To Know

  • The mobile classroom is inside of a school bus and is equipped with TVs, computers, and learning areas

  • The classroom offers tutoring for students in K-12 and technological help for senior citizens

  • Appointments are required for the bus to keep social distancing measures in place

It's a mobile academic classroom. Its goal is to offer virtual learning assistance to families who need it.

"We have the encyclopedias, computers, books, all types of school supplies, TVs," said Smith.

Kimberly Smith first started Best Community Resource Center last November. She said she didn't know what she was going to do with her nonprofit, but she had a vision of providing her community with a resource center. The bus travels to different locations around Cleveland, offering tutoring for children and technological help for senior citizens.

Smith said so far the response from the community has been positive.

"Parents are super excited, simply because their kids have been getting on their nerves. Trying to help the kids with the computer, navigating, that's not easy when you have multiple children."

Because of the pandemic, only eight people are allowed on the bus at a time. Appointments have to be made to reserve a spot to keep the guidelines in place.
