1. N.Y. Senate, Assembly higher education committees push for tuition assistance reform

A series of bills to fund and expand the state's Tuition Assistance Program were introduced Monday. It comes on the heels of SUNY enrollment increasing for the first time in a decade, but also amid major funding concerns over the next decade.

2. N.Y. Senate-passed voting reforms await Assembly support

State senators Monday passed a package of 10 election reforms to mark their first full day of legislative work, which would expand early voting and allow more absentee ballot drop-off and portable voting locations to conduct early voting, and more. But the bills require support from the lower house — an uncertainty after several of the measures died in the Assembly last year.

3. Stefanik wants investigation of U.S. defense secretary's secret hospitalization

Republican U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik called for U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to resign after his secretive hospital stay and delay in informing the Biden administration. The New York congresswoman, who is also the chair of the House GOP Conference, also called for an investigation into the matter.
