The MetroCard isn’t just a fare payment method, it’s also an icon of the city and even a source of creative inspiration.

Artist and native New Yorker Thomas McKean has spent years cutting up and rearranging MetroCards to create portraits, landscapes, abstract art, sculptures and more.

McKean joined anchor Rocco Vertuccio on “Weekends on 1” Saturday to discuss the MTA’s announcement it will stop selling MetroCards by the end of this year.
