Storms are continuing to move through Ohio on Monday morning. Spectrum News 1 meteorologists said these storms could bring a lot of lightning, damaging winds and localized flooding.

To protect yourself from lightning, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has these tips:

If caught outside, seek shelter immediately — while crouching or getting low to the ground can help limit your chances of being struck, it doesn't mean you're out of danger, according to the CDC. However, it is possible that there is no shelter nearby. In that case:

  • Immediately get off elevated areas such as hills, mountain ridges or peaks
  • Never lie flat on the ground — crouch down in a ball-like position with your head tucked and hands over your ears so that you are down low with minimal contact with the ground
  • Don't take shelter under an isolated tree and instead head for shelter under lower trees
  • Never use a cliff or rocky overhang for shelter
  • Immediately get out of and away from ponds, lakes and other bodies of water.
  • Stay away from objects that conduct electricity (such as barbed wire fences, power lines or windmills)
