She was identified as Tammy Lowe, 18, from Taylor, Michigan, according to a press release.

The Toledo Police Department requested assistance from The Porchlight Project back in October last year to identify the 1987 remains.

“The unidentified female was found near Collingwood Blvd. and Interstate 75 wrapped in a cloth and burned,” the release reads. “Previous attempts to identify her were unsuccessful. The Porchlight Project elected to fund further genetic genealogy DNA testing through Othram of Woodlands, TX.”

The testing found a potential relative in Michigan. After some follow-up, authorities confirmed the match through a close relative.

“The Toledo Police Department is grateful to The Porchlight Project, Othram, Ohio BCI, Lucas County Cold Case Unit, and the Lucas County Coroner’s Office for their assistance in identifying Ms. Lowe,” the release reads. “About The Porchlight Project: The Porchlight Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that offers funding for DNA testing and genetic genealogy for Ohio cold cases.”
