PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — Residents in southeastern Ohio areas might have felt a few rumbles beneath their feet Monday.

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded two earthquakes — one in Jackson County, just northwest of Oakhill, and another in Washington County, near Marietta.

The one near Oakhill had a 3.1 magnitude, and registered as weak to light on the intensity scale. It also had a depth of 16 miles, according to USGS. This earthquake was much more widely felt, with reports from as south as Huntington, West Virginia, to Chillicothe, Ohio.

The other near Marietta registered as a 2.8 and was also rated as weak to light on the intensity scale. It had a depth of 6 miles.

These are the most recent earthquakes recorded in the area since December, when a 3.3 magnitude earthquake was recorded near Chesapeake.
