Mega Millions is the gift that keeps on giving. A lucky winner could possibly take home the biggest Christmas Eve jackpot ever. It's currently sitting at almost $1 billion.
The take-home prize for Mega Millions is currently $970 million, or $439.9 million for the cash option, according to the Mega Millions.
The lucky numbers will be drawn Tuesday night at 11 p.m. Eastern.
The current jackpot has been growing since someone in Texas won $810 million on Sept. 10.
Since the game began, there has only been one winning ticket sold on Christmas Eve, and that was in 2002, the game’s inaugural year. The $68 million jackpot won in New York eventually went unclaimed.
Tuesday’s night winner could take home the seventh-largest jackpot in Mega Millions history. While the jackpot has been rolling since it was last won in Texas, there have been more than 21.4 million winning tickets sold in the 29 drawings since then.
If you’re feeling lucky, grab a Mega Millions ticket in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Tickets are $2 each. In most places players can add the “Megaplier” for an additional $1 to multiply their non-jackpot prizes.
