CINCINNATI — New billboards are going up in Ohio that highlight a deadly problem, people dying from fentanyl.

Now, families who've lost their children to the drug are speaking out in hopes to bring awareness to the drug.

What You Need To Know

  • A billboard with 20 pictures of people who've died from fentanyl was revealed in Cincinnati on Wednesday

  • Grieving parents whose children's pictures were on the billboard shared their stories and called for more awareness and funding to fight the problem

  • One mother shared the names of those who died in a book and hopes to start a nonprofit to face the fentanyl problem

For Tammy Bohl, the book she wrote called “My Child Died, Now What?” is a sad reminder of what happened to her son.

“It’s the most devastating thing that you can ever live through, and it doesn’t go away,” said Bohl.

Her son died after she said he took illegal drugs that were laced with a deadly substance, fentanyl.

“It’s poisoning, it’s not an overdose. They didn’t choose to take fentanyl, you know. They were poisoned by somebody else,” said Bohl.

In the two years since, she wrote about her pain in poetry in that book and quickly found she was not alone.

Lisa Winans has a picture in a seat saved for her daughter, who became addicted.

“She had back pain and a toothache…she went from heroin to meth,” said Winans.

Her daughter died because she said those drugs contained a lethal dose of fentanyl, but three years later, she has a different feeling.

“So proud, not that she’s gone, but for awareness, we could teach somebody else because I knew nothing about fentanyl,” said Winans.

Parents from across the country who lost their children to fentanyl, teamed up and raised money for a billboard, revealed Wednesday in Cincinnati.

The billboard is filled with pictures of those who died all names, and an idea that started with Bohl’s book, to bring awareness to what has killed so many.

“I want kids to learn from it... that you don’t do it, it’s not worth your life,” said Bohl.

Bohl went through a group called "Rachel’s Angels" to get the billboard. The group is putting up billboards across the country to bring awareness to the problem.
