Nearly 700 community leaders gathered for the event at the Hilton in Columbus.

The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission, also known as MORPC, put on the event to explore sustainable solutions for the region and discuss growth. They spent the day in breakout sessions, covering topics like economic development, transportation and mobility, and housing.

This year’s theme was “Growing Better Together”, which MORPC Executive Director William Murdock says will be key, as Intel and other major companies move here.

“We want to learn about the value of working together,” Murdock said. “You can’t ignore growth. You have to plan for it. You got to get ready for it, and one of the big examples we’ve been talking about is walkability, and we’ve done surveys of central Ohio. And over and over, people say we want more trails, more transit, even trains.”

Some projects MORPC is already focusing on, includes passenger rail and LinkUS, which is about adding more trails, sidewalks and options for public transportation.

Right now, central Ohio is on track to welcome about 700,000 more people by 2050, bringing its population to about 3 million.
