CLEVELAND — Nine people were wounded in the shooting that occurred in Cleveland's Warehouse District last year.

The shooter, Jaylon Jennings, 26, pleaded no contest and was found guilty by a Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge on Tuesday for nine counts attempted murder, 18 counts of felonious assault, two counts of having a weapon under disability, one count grand theft and one count of receiving stolen property.

On July 9, 2023, Jennings left the Rumor Bar and Lounge at around 2 a.m. with Kevin Del Valle-Salaman, 25. Jennings retrieved a firearm from Del Valle-Salaman's vehicle, which was parked nearby. Jennings waited outside Rumor Bar and Lounge before firing shots as victims exited. In total, nine people were shot, seven men and two women. The victims ages ranged from 23 to 38. 

“What was supposed to be a fun night out in the heart of Downtown Cleveland quickly turned into a nightmare for these nine individuals and dozens of others on West 6th Street,” said Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley. “It is a miracle that no one was killed, and more people were not injured. Our community continues to be plagued by gun violence. This plea is a firm reminder that gun violence is unacceptable and we will hold violent crime offenders accountable in our county.”

Four men were shot in the right leg, one man was shot in the lower back and one man was shot in the right forearm while the last man was sturck mutliple times including in the thighs, right wrist, left hand and groin. Both women were shot in the legs. 

Eight of the victims appeared to be part of a targeted group of friends and an additional victim standing nearby was also struck, according to the prosecutor's office.

Jennings and Del Valle-Salaman ran toward Del Valle-Salaman's vehicle before fleeing the scene with Del Valle-Salaman driving. 

Jennings was arrested on July 1, 2023 and Del Valle-Salaman was arrested on July 15, 2023. On Jan. 9, Del Valle Salaman pleaded guilty to one count tampering with evidence and one count of obstructing justice. Del Valle-Salaman will be sentenced at a later date.
