COLUMBUS, Ohio — Three dozen people were taken into police custody after Pro-Palestinian protests on Ohio State University’s campus last week. Nineteen of the 36 were arraigned for criminal trespass at the Franklin County Municipal Court Monday morning.

Court proceedings moved relatively quick, as all 19 cases were filed informally to the judge. None of the defendants were in court.

Just outside of the courthouse, activists and community members gathered to show support for those arrested.

Now all the cases filed Monday have been continued until June 14. The remaining protesters are set to be arraigned between Tuesday and Wednesday.

According to a preliminary report sent by a university spokesperson, there were 36 arrests — 16 students and 20 not affiliated with the university. The arrests began at about 10 p.m. Thursday after police told hundreds of protesters to disperse from where they had gathered at the South Oval area of campus.

The protest started at 5 p.m. and included students, faculty and community members asking the university to divest from Israel.

Law enforcement said tents had been erected at the protest, which isn’t allowed.

Activists have already scheduled another protest Wednesday at Ohio State.
