They took part in the third annual CPS All-Star Showcase at UC’s arena, featuring the very best public school players, both boys and girls. They competed in everything from three-point shot and dunk contests to dribbling and shooting skills competitions.

The event also featured both a boys and girls all-star game and cheerleading performance.

In addition to showing off their talent in front of some college scouts, it’s also a chance for the players and their families to experience the university, said Jack Miner, UC’s vice-provost for enrollment management.

“For many folks in Cincinnati, this is the first time they’ve been on UC’s campus because if you don’t traditionally come to a football game or basketball game or come to one of our shows with the college of music, then you don’t necessarily get to see campus a lot, so this is a great way to be here,” Miner said.

The event also raises money for Project Connect, which helps Cincinnati public school students who are experiencing homelessness and other issues. Last year, the event raised $15,000.
