CINCINNATI — It's the holidays, and one woman has taken the meaning of Christmas to another level.

What You Need To Know

  • Kathy Evans has been making Christmas cookies for the residents at The Kenwood by Senior Star for 11 years

  • She helped make almost 10,000 cookies this year and personally delivered them to 300 residents

  • Residents express gratitude for the cookies year after year

Kathy Evans filled her car up with boxes of Christmas cookies, and a lot of them.

“We bake between 7,000 and 10,000 cookies,” said Evans. “It took us four whole days, and I had five people helping me.”

But the time is worth the effort for something she cares about. She’s delivering them to residents at The Kenwood by Senior Star, a senior living center in Cincinnati.

It’s Evans’ 11th year delivering Christmas cookies to The Kenwood By Senior Star, and this year, she made some for 300 residents.

“I think that’s my niche in life,” said Evans. “I take care of the seniors, and they absolutely love me, the majority of them. It brings a smile to their face, as well as mine, to see them enjoying what I’ve made.”

It’s not her first time being one of Santa’s helpers.

“Actually, since 1997, but since 2013 at The Kenwood,” she said.

But the executive director of the home Scott Gibson said it’s special every year.

“I definitely see our residents’ moods go up,” he said. “I mean, I just I can’t help but smile when she delivers them. Not only does she do them for our residents, like I get them every year. So, it’s awesome.”

And what better way is there to spread Christmas cheer, even if it’s in cookie form.

“It’s a really good feeling because they’re like, ‘Oh God, this is so great that you do this,’ and I love doing it. You know, I think it’s my calling, you know, to do Christmas cookies for wherever I am. So, I keep on going.”

Of course, the cookies make the holidays for the residents "Oh, so special."

“This wonderful woman goes around being a good girl to everybody, fixing up all these good cookies,” said Susan Brougher, resident at The Kenwood by Senior Star.
