The Ohio Wetlands Habitat Stamp is required for anyone 18 years or older who is hunting waterfowl and migratory birds.
The stamp is also often purchased by people wanting to make a contribution to wetland habitats.
The proceeds from stamp sales go toward funding wetland habitat restoration projects in Ohio. Since the first stamp in 1982, the program has raised more than $11 million for wetland conservation, according to ODNR.
The first stamp was designed by Ohio artist John A. Ruthven and included a pair of wood ducks.
Since 1996, a competition has been held in conjunction with the Ohio Ducks Unlimited annual convention. This year, the winner was Sam Timm from Wisconsin. Timm’s art was up against nine other pieces of art, all viewed by a panel of five judges. Second place was awarded to Maryland artist Diane Ford for her painting of gadwall ducks.
The stamp currently for sale was designed by Michigan artist Jeffrey Klinefelter and features three lesser scaup, another type of duck.
