CINCINNATI — An Ohio couple is taking their healthy lifestyle from the gym to the office. Meredith Owens and Braydon Sullivan founded OrganiClean, a commercial cleaning company that’s all about organics.

  • For Owens and Sullivan, it's as much about extending their healthy lifestyle at home into their work

The couple started cleaning houses to help pay for Owens' studies in Health Sciences at the University of Cincinnati. She graduated in 2021, and instead of going to graduate school, Owens and Sullivan decided to switch to using organic cleaning products and concentrate on cleaning offices and businesses instead of homes.

"I never thought I would be doing this. I had my whole life planned out," Owens said. "I definitely got a lot of raised eyebrows from friends and some family—‘Why are you guys doing this? You’re going to school?’ It was an accident that was meant to happen."

They're not alone; since the COVID pandemic began, commercial cleaning revenue has jumped by $15 billion, according to statistics from onedesk.com, a data analyst site.

For Owens and Sullivan, it's as much about extending their healthy lifestyle at home into their work.

The couple raises free-range chickens and consumes mostly organic fruits, vegetables, and meats.

"Our chickens eat organic feed, and they free-range when we’re home so we know that all the eggs are healthy,” Owens said.

Along with eating healthy food, they work out six days a week in the gym they built in their garage, complete with most pieces of equipment you find in a commercial gym.

The couple also gets a workout when they're cleaning.

'I love it; we're always moving,' said Owens.

She first got a workout cleaning as a punishment from her dad when she was a kid.

“My dad made me clean a fake plant leaf by leaf dusting it. That was a punishment of mine, so I was probably 8-years-old but I’ve always had cleaning chores since I was little."

As for the organic part, that came later, as Meredith learned more about healthy habits in college.

“The great thing about our organic products is they sanitize, they deep clean, but the best part is they don’t leave a strong aroma out into the open and it’s also non-toxic for people to breathe in, especially people with allergies, so it’s a great alternative,” Owens said.

“It’s something that gives us the opportunity to bring pieces of ourselves and personal values into the workplace,” Sullivan said. “We love it.”
