CLEVELAND — As Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse prepares for a return to a normal schedule, COVID-19 protocols could differ from night to night at the 20,000-seat arena.

What You Need To Know

  • The Cavs and Monsters will not require masks or COVID vaccines at games at the start of the season

  • Other events, including a pair of upcoming concerts, will require proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 test

  • Attendees of events that have enhanced COVID-19 protocols are encouraged to download the CLEAR app

  • The Cavs and Monsters will open games to full capacity this season

For instance, attending Cavs or Monsters games will not require proof of vaccination or masks from attendees. However, those attending several other upcoming events at the downtown Cleveland arena will be required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test.

Among the events with enhanced COVID-19 protocols include the Oct. 18 Harry Styles concert, Oct. 21 Michael Buble concert and the Oct. 30 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

For events with enhanced COVID-19 protocols, attendees are asked to downtown the CLEAR mobile app prior to arriving at the arena to allow for a faster entry process. The app will allow attendees to upload proof of COVID-19 vaccination or testing status. The app will also allow fans to complete a health screening prior to arriving at the arena.

Attendees who do not use the CLEAR app will be able to bring documentation of vaccination or testing status along with a photo ID.

Although the Cavs and Monsters are not requiring masks or vaccinations, the teams said they will continue to follow any potential mandates. Currently, Cuyahoga County is under a mask advisory, which recommends, but does not mandate, that masks be worn in all public buildings. The Cavs said they “strongly encourage” fans to wear masks at games this season.

The Cavs said that contactless ticketing, cashless transactions and Plexiglas dividers will continue to be implemented at events during the 2021-22 season.

The Cavs host their first preseason game of the season Friday against Indiana. The Monsters’ home opener is Oct. 15 against Syracuse.
