OHIO — On Friday, Gov. Mike DeWine said a total of 16 mass COVID-19 vaccination sites will open by the end of March.
The first location to be unveiled was the Wolstein Center at Cleveland State University Friday. DeWine said the locations were chosen to make vaccines more accessible to high-risk, minority and underserved communities across Ohio.
"We wanted to make sure they were available to everybody in the state of Ohio," DeWine said. "There's always been a plan to increase mass vaccination sites."
Not only will there be 11 permanent sites, there will also be four mobile units to cover Ohio's regions and two pop-ups in Columbus and Cincinnati, slated to open March 19. Although exact locations for the pop-ups have yet to be determined, DeWine's office said they'll likely be placed at a Kroger. They will last up to four days and plan to give 12,500 doses each.
The Wolstein Center site will be the first to open with a trial run on March 16 with about 100 appointments. March 17 will be the official opening date. At a press conference Friday, Cuyahoga County Executive said the sites will bring 300,000 vaccines to Ohio.
Here are what we know about the locations so far.
Note: Yellow are mobile vaccination sites.
