MOUNT HEALTHY, Ohio — Several parents are now facing charges after hosting a party bus for a 14-year-old's birthday party over the weekend, which had around 60 kids in attendance with no COVID-19 safety precautions, according to the Mount Health Police Department.

The police department said officers stumbled upon the large unmarked bus at Hilltop Shopping Center Saturday night, which had juveniles boarding on and off. Fights are what caused officers to respond to the scene, and at one point, a juvenile attempt to strike an officer, according to authorities. The juvenile was arrested.

The bus driver disregarded commands to reboard the juveniles and fled the scene, leaving a crowd of 60 teenagers — without masks or social distancing — stranded.

After an hour of arguments, officers eventually got the crowd to remain socially distant and contact their parents. After officers talked to families, it was discovered that a pair of parents organized a party bus for their 14-year-old's birthday.

The police department said the bus traveled from Downtown Cincinnati to Mount Healthy.

"Our investigation continues but we have determined the original invitation was posted on Social Media as an “OPEN INVITE”. The parents responsible have been identified and will be charged with violations of the Governor’s Orders and we are consulting with the Prosecutor’s Office in hopes of adding additional criminal charges for the parents and the others involved," the police department wrote in a Facebook post.

Not only were the juveniles not following safety precautions, they were also breaking a Mount Healthy law. In the city, minors under 14 years old have a curfew and can't be in public spaces between 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and midnight to 6 a.m. Friday through Saturday. The bus was dropping off juveniles around 9:50 p.m., before the police responded to the fights.

According to the police department, none of the kids or the parents live in Mount Healthy.

"Parents – it is your responsibility to manage your children. Mount Healthy Police will not tolerate blatant law violations especially when such action endangers our community, our officers, and public health. The Hilltop Plaza is not public property and should not be used without the permission of the owners," the police department wrote.
