COLUMBUS, Ohio — Lots of new information came out of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine’s press briefing Wednesday, but most noteworthy is that the governor wants to stop all private lab testing for COVID-19. The reason? It takes too long. DeWine said it was “unacceptable” for labs to take 5-6 days to turn around test results.

“It’s unacceptable to the patient, it’s unacceptable for the rest of us, because knowing when someone tests positive or doesn’t test positive is information that we very, very desperately need,” DeWine said.

DeWine is asking all hospitals to conduct testing internally or send it to the Department of Health to expedite results.

Another piece of information coming out of today's conference is that that lieutenant governor is asking for a 90-day pause on all foreclosures. He says it will help landlords who are missing rental revenue because of the pandemic.

Spectrum News 1 Statehouse Reporter Molly Martinez had an opportunity to ask the governor about non-essential businesses that still have their doors open.

“Hobby Lobby is still open, we know that,” DeWine said.

Hobby Lobby initially shut down due to state-mandated lockdowns, but has now reopened all of its 19 Ohio locations, branding itself as an “essential business.”

The company has several locations in Northeast Ohio, including Mentor, Solon, Macedonia, Stow, Fairlawn and Medina.
