COLUMBUS, Ohio — The biggest news to come out of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine’s press conference Monday is that the three-week extended break for schools is being extended even further.

Schools will remain closed until at least May 1, but the governor did not rule out the possibility that students could be out for the remainder of the school year.

In Monday’s briefing, DeWine also spoke about the FDA’s approval of Battelle’s sterilized mask production system for health care workers.

Late Sunday night, the FDA finally gave the approval for the Ohio-based company to begin streamlining the sterilization process of PPE — those masks that front line workers so desperately need and are running through like crazy.

There was a delay in getting this approved and when asked why that was, Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted said it really took Governor DeWine calling up the president, putting his feet to the fire and making this a priority to cut through all that red tape.
