TROY, Ohio — Many spent the day Sunday cleaning up the damage left behind after a tornado hit just north of Dayton in Miami County Saturday night.

  • Businesses in downtown Troy got the worst of the damage in that area
  • The roofs on at least two buildings in the Public Square were gone
  • The high winds ripped the roof right off of a building with apartments and a restaurant full of people inside

“I felt this real weird thing and loud noise,” said Ron Anderko, Troy apartment building tenant.

That’s when Ron Anderko saw it happening — something he couldn’t believe.

“Shocked, scared, it’s hard to, I don’t know, it was pretty weird,” said Anderko.

The roof was coming off his apartment building, while he and his wife were sitting right under it.

“I ran over to the window, I live on the third floor, I look down and it actually did come down, so I ran down and looked up under here to see if anybody was under there,” said Anderko.

But two floors down, a restaurant full of people watched the high winds slam the roof right on top of someone’s car.

“I rushed down here and found this into my parking lot,” said Steve Smith, building/restaurant owner.

And they’re not the only ones who saw this all happening.

Just down the road, the roof on another building was gone.  Crews were cleaning the debris left in the street.

And in the neighborhoods, trees were ripped right out of the ground.

But despite the damage, no one was hurt.

However, business owners aren’t taking any chances, closing up shop to clean up.

And the people who live in the apartments are moving out until it’s safe again, but they say they are the lucky ones.

The National Weather Service has confirmed it was an EF0 tornado that hit Troy, as well as the neighboring town of Fletcher.
