COLUMBUS, Ohio—Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day has continued to praise new transfer quarterback Justin Fields, saying he's only going to get better.

  • The Buckeyes are focused on this Saturday’s big in-state matchup against the Cincinnati Bearcats
  • Both head coaches have something to prove
  • It's been 122 years since the Bearcats last beat Ohio State

At Saturday’s press conference, Day admitted to being concerned with how many times Fields was taking hits.

And by Sunday, Fields says he was feeling it, but Coach Day says this is how he's going to learn and adapt.

But now the focus is on this coming weekend— when the Buckeyes will have to step up their game even more, against the Cincinnati Bearcats.

Not only does Coach Day have something to prove — but so does Bearcats head coach Luke Fickell, an OSU alum.

"It's an opportunity to not just play Ohio State, it's an opportunity for us to play a top 5 team, to measure our program, to measure us as individuals, to measure the units, offense and defense, against some of the best," said Fickell.

“We're going to have to play better, I mean this is a team that's won a lot of games and they just beat a Pac-12 team.  And a coaching staff that I've got a lot of respect for.  This is a team that, even though they're not a Power 5 team, their talent level is just as good as most of them," said Day.

It's been 122 years since the Bearcats last beat Ohio State.

We'll see what happens Saturday.

Kickoff is at noon at the Shoe.
