Mike visits with Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl to talk about how the current political and cultural climate in the United States affects officers and his department's ability to recruit and retain officers.
"If you just kind of follow the headlines, it has affected line officers, leadership, what some would describe as progressive police chiefs leaving their roles, so it is a time of transition in policing, there's no question about that. I think in some cases, some jurisdiction, there's a level of exodus out of the profession," Biehl said. "I have never seen, in my 43 years in policing, a more challenging environment in public safety than the one that exists today across a whole host of factors. It's a tough environment and if individuals have other options like many people do, some will be choosing other options instead of this noble profession."
