An icon of the fight for suffrage has gained a new level of status.

Rochester's own Susan B. Anthony is joining the ranks of Mattel's "Inspiring Women" line as a Barbie doll.

The Susan B. Anthony Museum says the doll launches officially this Monday, October 5.

Officials with the museum say Mattel reached out with the company's plans for a doll and packaging that would reflect Anthony's life and career fighting for women's' suffrage.

"We were delighted when Mattel reached out to us and asked for us to provide some advice about clothing and what Susan B. Anthony would look like, they wanted it to be as authentic as it could be, as part of the Inspiring Women series, you'll find Ella Fitzgerald, Rosa Parks, Florence Nightingale, Billie Jean King, so now, girls or boys who play with these figures, and they're a lot more articulated than they used to be everything moves and bends, now have heroes."

A limited number of the dolls are available in the museum's online store.
