A vibrant celebration of Indian culture in Waterline Square Park on the Upper West Side. Dancers from the Masala Bhangra program in Manhattan showed off their high-energy routines. Through the program, participants learn traditional Indian choreography that incorporates Dhol Drum beats and Bollywood style.

More than a dozen Masala Bhangra dancers performed at the Summer of Colors event. It marks the 75th anniversary of Indian Independence which falls on Aug. 15.

Anu Sehgal, who organized Wednesday's celebration, comes from an inter-religious family. She says she wants to break stereotypes about India and showcase its diversity.

“In the minds of people, India is one person, one place. It is not," Sehgal said. "It is one of the most diverse countries. The foods are different, the languages are different, the subcultures are different.”
