The talk of the baseball world has been the trade of former Boston Red Sox star Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants. It's a trade that sent shock waves throughout the Red Sox organization. The manager of the top affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, Chad Tracy, said on this week's Inside The Clubhouse it's business as usual here at Polar Park in Worcester. Tracy said, "Obviously, there's guys here that have gone up and down from the big leagues that have been teammates with him (Devers) and that. So yeah, it's a topic. But at the same time, it's not relevant for us here right now. And we have things, a job to do, and we have games to play. In our case, come out here tonight, we have to play against Buffalo. So will they have conversations about it in there amongst themselves? I'm sure they will. But at the same time, the beauty of baseball is there's always a game that day, unless it's on Monday in the minor leagues and you have to prepare to play a baseball game, that's what we're doing."
As the WooSox play their current home-stand with the Buffalo Bisons the International League is approaching the midway point of the season. After a highly successful series with Lehigh, Tracy likes the way his team has been playing. "We're doing great. I mean, obviously we're coming off the heels of a nine game win streak, which is awesome. Lost a couple, but then came back and won one, so we had a split with a very, very good team in Lehigh that's in position to clinch a first half playoff berth. So played them well, we've played them well all year, and then this is the wrap up to the first half, the last six games, the first half before everything starts over. So hoping that we can play well this week, carry some momentum into next week when everything kind of starts back at zero and zero." Tracy added about the first half of the season wrapping up, "It went fast. To know that we're like fast coming up on July. And also July goes by quickly because you get to July and then you get that all star break in the middle. So when July hits, there's days off in there, there's a break in the middle. And before you know it, you're at the end of July. To know that we're already getting to that point is crazy."
Tracy has always said that pitching is the key to his team's success. During the WooSox recent nine game win streak this was the case. "A big part of the run we went on with the nine games plus how we've played, even really the last three series, has been how well we've pitched, particularly in the starting role. But our relievers have come in and done a heck of a job. So I will always start with that, if we continue to pitch the way we have, I know for sure we will be in the game with a chance to win. And then it's just a matter of execution late. So I want to see us keep pitching the way we have."
