It's every professional baseball player's dream to get the call up to the major leagues.
Back on July 31, Worcester Red Sox infielder Nick Sogard got the call he'd been dreaming of, his first call up to the big leagues. Getting the news from WooSox manager Chad Tracy made it even more special.
"Trace called me into the office and gave me the news so that was a cool moment for me obviously," he said. "It meant a lot to get the call from him and Flo and the staff here so it was cool. I was hopeful it would happen this year but you know, try not to think about when. Just trying to play baseball and then when it happens or if it happens that'd be great."
Sogard added that the members of the club in Boston, many who he knew from spring training, were a great help.
"It was a cool moment. I've played with so many of them so I thnik that made it kind of a smooth transition for me. A lot of familiar faces which is nice," he explained.
In his major league debut against the Texas Rangers, Sogard collected his first hit. It was a two RBI single in an 11-6 Red Sox win.
"It was good to get that one out of the way fairly early and then kind of just try to settle in and play my game," he said.
