It's been a rapid rise to the AAA WooSox for Kristian Campbell. The 22-year-old started the 2024 season in high A Greenville. Now, with the WooSox, Campbell says consistency is the key.
"I feel like just trying to stay consistent as possible, just moving up through different levels. Not forgetting what I did offensively and defensively in the previous levels before. Kind of just keeping the same approach throughout every level."
Campbell has been part of an influx of youth to the Worcester lineup. Campbell says it's been a smooth transition to Worcester and the veterans on the club have been a huge asset to his development.
"It’s been nice. Been really cool. We got a lot of older players on the team. I feel like I got a lot of mentors on this team, a lot of older guys to tell me what to do and what not to do. Kind of keeping my head straight and everything, so it’s really a blessing to be around this group right now so I have a lot to learn. You always got to keep your ear open because they’ve been playing for a lot longer than I have — especially professional baseball. You just always listen, always be open to different things and try new things out. It can never hurt you. So at the end of the day it’s always good being open."
After hitting only one home run in his first professional season, Campbell has hit 19 this season.
When asked what the difference is, Campbell said, "Gaining weight, getting older, getting stronger, bat speed. I’ve been working with the bat speed program this last year and its been working a lot. Just kind of listening to my coaches and what everybody is saying around me to try to help me get the ball in the air. This is the first time I’ve hit a lot of home runs in a season. Before it was just really hitting the ball, putting the ball in play and just running."
