WORCESTER, Mass. - Worcester Red Sox pitcher Zach Penrod compared pitching to a high-level game of chess.

"You're up there and you're trying to throw the right pitch in the right situation and try to get that hitter out," said Penrod. "And it's a constant battle. He's trying to guess what you're throwing. You're trying to throw the right pitch to get him out. So it's a constant game, and I just enjoy the competition that comes with it."

During a sit down with Spectrum News 1's Kevin Shea, the WooSox pitcher also discussed balancing velocity and pitch location.

"I think, just because you know hitters are constantly trying to reach that same level of being able to hit the velocity," said Penrod. "I think it's, to a certain extent, it's going to catch up eventually. And I think we're going to rely a little bit more on that. As time goes on, hitters are going to consistently get better at it. So like changing speeds, finding locations and things like that are going to constantly be a part of the game that you're going to have to master."
