High school sports in Massachusetts are different because of covid-19, and while there hasn't been as much to cheer for this fall, there's a sign of hope in the town of Millbury.

School and town leaders cut a ribbon on a new athletic complex at the high school.

The Millbury Booster Club helped kick start the effort to put in turf fields and a new track, and the town supported the nearly $5M project which was years in the making.

Field committee chairperson, Patrick Mara, said the facility is built for the future and he’s looking forward to the day when Millbury’s student athletes can play on it.

"Over the past six, seven months it's been an interesting process with the pandemic, and certainly for student athletes and coaches it's been different. And certainly this is a day of hope."

The new facility will be fully ready for the spring.

And while it's turf and named alumni field, Millbury student athletes still call their home the "Woolie Swamp.”
