The town of Rutland paid tribute to one of their longest-tenured public servants in history.

Saturday, the town unveiled and dedicated the intersection of Main Street and Pleasantdale Road as "Ralph Anderson Square."

Anderson served for 40 years and was Rutland's first full-time police chief before retiring in 1998.

He received recognition from the town, State Senate, and Sheriff's Office.

Those in town said they're grateful for all of his service.

"This town is really all about honoring people who committed to this town and have done good things for this town,” town administrator Ronald San Angelo said. “It really is that small town sense of community and that's what you saw today. The community coming together to show their love for this man."

"You can see by the turnout today in a very difficult year, we saw some joy and I think in this Easter season that's all special as you could ever get and I'm honored to be here,” former State Senator Stephen Brewer said.

Saturday's celebration included a State Police helicopter fly over, as well as the playing of bagpipes and drums by Worcester Pipe and Drum.
