WORCESTER, Mass. - Preparations are underway for next week's inauguration of Donald Trump.
An estimated 25,000 law enforcement and military personnel are expected to provide security throughout Washington, D.C. and some big names in entertaiment will be performing for the nation's 47th president.
Congressman Jim McGovern said while he’s not happy with the results of the election, he'll be there on Inauguration Day to oversee the peaceful transfer of power. The Democrat said he hopes President-Elect Trump will discuss ways to bring the country together but said based on his social media posts it doesn’t seem promising.
"So far, what he seems to be about is showing division and polarization” said Congressman McGovern. “I worry about the well-being of our democracy. I worry about, you know, everyday issues that impact my constituents. And, you know, we have a new republican majority here in the house, and we're not working on bills to lower the price of groceries or to help people afford their rents or be able to buy homes or we're not even working on legislation to combat the wildfires in California. They're very hot button divisive gotcha bills to the floor that do nothing for anybody."
The Republican-led House of Representatives passed the Laken Riley Act last week which gives immigration authorities more power to detain undocumented immigrants accused of crimes.
President-Elect Trump has said he's preparing 100 executive orders which include strengthening border security and authorizing deportations.
