PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Turkey after turkey was given out Monday as the Thanksgiving Angels in Pittsfield held their annual food distribution day. This year, they say they have over 2,000 Thanksgiving meals.

What You Need To Know

  • Thanksgiving Angels handed out Thanksgiving meals Monday

  • They do it every year, and this year marked 13 years

  • They say around 2,200 families are being given meals this year

  • Hundreds of volunteers helped distribute the meals

“We’re thinking about 2,200 people are going to come through. We delivered yesterday to over 600, so the rest is all drive-thru and then tomorrow, we are going to be open for a few hours. Whatever we have leftover, we are going to share,” said Thanksgiving co-coordinator Hope Amandos.

On Monday morning, hundreds of people lined up their cars or walked up to get meals.

“It means a lot…Financially, it helps a lot to be able to come get a turkey and all the fixings, and I’ll be cooking for my neighbors Scotty and my son and my other neighbor,” said Carrie Fotiathis, who picked up a meal Monday morning.

“That’s the perfect name, Thanksgiving angels, because some people are unfortunate to get things they need for the holiday, so it’s good to have these organizations and foundations that cater to the community around this time of season,” said Jarritt White, who also picked up a meal.

Thanksgiving Angels says it has over 500 people as volunteers this year. Nelson Ross was one of the volunteers. He has been doing this for 10 years.

“It’s a good thing. We need to look out for the people in the community that don’t necessarily have, and we need people who don’t judge people based on what kind of car they drive,” said volunteer Nelson Ross.

People who signed up were given a turkey or chicken, along with a pie, stuffing, vegetables, potatoes and more to help make a Thanksgiving meal.

“It feels like everybody is going to have something to eat. It just makes you feel better you know we’re thankful…” Amandos said.

“It helps you enjoy your own Thanksgiving when you know that all these people who really need the food are getting it,” said Thanksgiving Angels co-coordinator Gretchen DeBartolo.
