UXBRIDGE, Mass. – The Uxbridge vs Northbridge Thanksgiving Day high school football rivalry is one of the great ones. The neighboring towns have a lot of history on the gridiron, as well as some upsets and fantastic finishes on turkey day.
This year, however, the two teams will meet on Saturday as well as Thanksgiving. The Spartans and Rams will square off in the Division 7 state semifinals five days before they meet again on Thanksgiving. This time, it's not just for bragging rights, but the right to go to Gillette Stadium and the state Super Bowl.
"It's very cool the town over, but this time it's competitive," said Uxbridge running back/linebacker Camden LaChapelle, "It mattters to get to the Super Bowl, rather than just some fun game."
"It's really cool that we get this opportunity," said linebacker/wide receiver Talen Rosborough. "That we get to play our rival, next town over in the semifinals, it's not often that this happens. Because usually we just play them on Thanksgiving. It's going to be pretty cool to have this opportunity."
"It's really cool that we're playing them," said captain Rogan Devlin. "It's going to be a good game. There's going to be a lot of people. It should be fun."
Uxbridge and Northbridge play at 1 p.m. Sat., Nov. 23 at Milford High School.
