PITTSFIELD, Mass. - The Salvation Army in Pittsfield is collecting food to put into Christmas food boxes.

They say they’ll help about 350 families who signed up to receive toys and a food box for a Christmas dinner and are really needing desserts.

“We need to put some holiday items in the food box so in addition to our regularly run food pantry and community meals we want to really give our families enough to have a feast and our biggest need right now is desserts,” said Captain Marsha Barter, Pittsfield Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army says they’ve seen a greater need as about 50 more families signed up for Christmas than did last year.

People can contact the Salvation Army to arrange a drop off or pick up and the organization wants to let people know they’re looking for volunteers to help this holiday season.
