Worcester, MASS. - Another television series is back filming for the big screen in the city of Worcester. This time, it’s the murder mystery "Dreamcrusher."
“"Dreamcrusher" is about a pop star named Gwen,” filmmaker Gavin Michael Booth said. “Unfortunately, she is discovered dead the morning after her hometown concert. It’s album release day and everyone we meet backstage becomes the key suspects of the last people who were with her.”
Booth said the Palladium was the perfect spot to film, serving as the venue for Gwen’s concert.
“It’s sort of that perfect, you know, what everyone pictures the backstage of a concert and green room should look like,” he said.
Crews also spent time filming on city streets and in local coffee shops. "Dreamcrusher" is an American production, but the city’s business development manager, Edgar Luna, said it’s the first time a film crew from out of the country picked Worcester as its backdrop.
“It’s a company from Canada and it's the first time a Canadian film company has come to Worcester,” Luna said. “Therefore, we have become an international venue for movies and we’re excited about that.”
"Dreamcrusher" is part of the "Reward" series streaming on the platform Reveel, which was founded in Massachusetts. Booth said 90% of the show is being filmed in Worcester, and everyone from city leaders to residents and businessowners were excited to make it work.
“I can’t stress enough how great the crew and the community are. Walking into a coffee shop and asking to film there and them saying can we make everyone lunch, can we help? And we are just like we just need the location and they are like, but can we help?” he said.
The first episode of "Dreamcrusher" is set to air in January. Luna said the city is already in talks with three different movie companies to film in Worcester in 2025.
