WORCESTER, Mass. - Rep. Jim McGovern is returning to Washington. Voters reelected the veteran Democrat to his 15th term in Congress Tuesday night. As of Wednesday evening, party control of the house is still undetermined. Republicans won control of the U.S. Senate.

McGovern says he'll deal with whatever the results are, noting he's worked with both a democratic and republican-led senate.

He says he's disappointed, sad and heartbroken over president-elect Donald Trump's victory over Kamala Harris.

McGovern says he thought the vice president ran a near-flawless campaign and he's worried about the country.

"I think that it just shows that this is who America is at this point,” said McGovern. “Everybody knows Donald Trump. They know what he stands for. They observed his vulgarity and his offensive rhetoric on the campaign trail. We have people we have we have women in this country who are dying from Trump abortion bans. And yet Trump has been reelected. And so I’m concerned about the future and I wish it turned out very differently."

McGovern said moving forward, the Democratic Party needs to focus on issues like strengthening the middle class and economic security.
